Local brewer makes burnt orange beer
By Russell Wilde
No matter how you order it, the anti-Oklahoma message on the label says it all. When Independence Brewing Company head brewer Rob Cartwright saw the label on an Oklahoma beer, he knew he had to do something. "We saw a beer up in Oklahoma called 'Texas Sux' and we were like 'That's it, it's on,'" he said. His response to that Oklahoma brew, the 'Oklahoma Suks' beer, is now their most popular product of the year. "To be honest I haven't heard anyone complaining about the beer. I've heard some complaints about the label, but those are all from Oklahoma fans or people from Oklahoma," Cartwright said. Texas fans filled the brewery Saturday for some pre-game beverages, and to get a first hand look at the drink is made. Cartwright says the only thing that could make the beer better is the outcome of the game. "I think the beer always tastes better if we win, but everything is better when we win," he said. Maybe that means the beer will be better next year. |
